[With Sample Photos] Everyday Life Becomes a Little Dramatic: Walking the City with the IXY DIGITAL 930 IS

The IXY DIGITAL 930 IS has a zoom range from 24mm wide-angle to 120mm telephoto. That "24mm" feels better than I expected. A cafe table, for example. A bustling station square. An alley at dusk.

Even in situations where you want to step back one more pace but can't, it fits everything in neatly.

2. The Night City, Vividly Preserved

The first shot is of the night city. Neon and crowds, slightly damp asphalt, and a person lit up by the strobe. The flash on this camera is strong in a good way, freezing the subject in front while keeping the light in the background.

It feels somewhat like a snapshot, and somewhat like a documentary record.

2. Sometimes the Light Is Best When It's Almost Too Strong

A daytime shot. The shadows fall firmly and the highlights are slightly blown. Honestly, it isn't a perfect exposure, but the colors of the red cone and the yellow cover assert themselves almost forcefully, making a nice accent. The IXY 930 IS feels less like it tames the light and more like it pushes it straight out at you.

3. Even Ordinary Scenery Is Properly Preserved

A corner of a residential area. A white car and a tree turning red. That's all there is to it. Yet when shot with this camera, somehow the atmosphere of that day seems to remain. A resolution that isn't too sharp, and slightly soft colors.

4. Shooting the Moment You Find the Light

An intersection at dusk. The shadows of buildings and a low sun. Light streams through the gap between them. The sight that spread before me when I happened to look up was an everyday scene so beautiful that I wanted to keep it. Carrying this camera around made me want to preserve the dramatic everyday moments that pass in an instant.

The Little "Quirks" of Light and Color Are Actually Good

When shooting in auto, this camera tends to raise the ISO a little, so indoors or at dusk you get a slightly grainy texture. But somehow that feels oddly pleasant. Night, day, and the walk home. Ordinary time becomes special time.
