[With Sample Photos] The Breath of the City, Taught by the Canon IXY 160

Hello everyone.

These days, high-performance smartphones and cameras are everywhere, and anyone can take a "failure-free shot." Yet having everything sharp down to the corners does not always reproduce the emotion of the moment.

I deliberately slipped the Canon IXY 160, small enough to fit in the palm of my hand, into my pocket and went out into the city. What I met there were fragments of lyrical light that can never be measured by numbers.

The Endearing Quality of Light That "Bleeds"

A quiet corner of a building. Greenery lit by artificial light had a somehow dreamlike look.

What surprises you when you press this camera's shutter is that light is rendered very "honestly," and just a little "ambiguously." Rather than cutting out outlines sharply, there is a gentleness as if light were melting into the air. This slightly bleeding light felt closer to the scenery in my memory than the "reality" rendered by the latest equipment.

Winter coats lined up neatly. The overlap of colors, the softness of the cloth. Rather than explaining them one by one, it wraps them whole as the "quiet afternoon air" drifting there. With this camera in hand, you feel as if you are cherishing the subject as part of the landscape rather than as something to "shoot."

Finding Body Warmth in the City Night

The city after sunset overflows with a whirlpool of information. Yet the night seen through the IXY 160's LCD was somehow nostalgic and calm.

A brightly glowing lottery booth. The contrast of darkness and light. The latest cameras might brighten even the shadow areas. But this little camera leaves "the dark parts dark." Thanks to that, the back of a person standing in the light and something like a small wish someone holds resonate more clearly in the heart.

Scooping Up Fragments of Daily Life, as if Breathing

A person steadily sweeping with a broom at the roadside. Their long, stretched shadow quietly marked the rhythm of the city's daily routine.

The IXY 160's strength may be its "lack of presence." It has none of the "I'm going to take a photo" tension that arises when you raise heavy equipment. You simply move your finger, as if breathing, the moment your heart is moved. That near-unconscious motion captures the ordinary yet precious moments of the city.

A place with its shutter down. People passing by. A coincidence that overlapped for just an instant in the changing cityscape. What this camera shows is not accuracy of information, but the very "wavering of my gaze" that I felt at that time.

The Magic of Turning Daily Life into a "Story"

Canon IXY 160. This camera may carry no special features or astonishing numbers. Yet it reminds us of the "joy of looking at the world" that we had almost forgotten.

Because it is not perfect, the imagination expands. Because it is not too sharp, memories remain beautiful.

If your photos feel a little "stiff" these days, why not walk with this small companion once? The moment you take it out of your pocket, your familiar daily life will surely transform into a gentle story.
